SUCCESSFUL SUTTON BID RENEWAL 2017 – 2022

Local businesses voted to support the renewal of Sutton Town Centre as a Business Improvement District (BID) for a further five years.  In our recent ballot of businesses 75 per cent voted in favour of giving Successful Sutton, the non-profit company that runs the BID, a mandate to continue to work on behalf of businesses in Sutton Town Centre.

Craig Pretorious, Chair of Successful Sutton, hosted a reception at the MidTown Hub  on Sutton High Street to celebrate the renewal of the Sutton Town Centre Business Improvement District programme and he thonked all the local businesses that voted to continue the exciting programme to enhance the town centre’s position as a destination of choice.

Speaking to guests at the Successful Sutton reception which included local MP Paul Scully, Councillor Jayne McCoy and local business people, Mr Pretorius said:

“I appreciate the faith you have put in Successful Sutton for a further five years and we will do our very best to make Sutton Town Centre the thriving place we all want it be. We can now build on our achievements to date and work towards making Sutton Town Centre a better place to do business, visit, live and work. We would like to thank you for your support.”

Interim CEO of Successful Sutton, Monica Tyler said:

“Over the last five years, Successful Sutton has delivered a number of projects and initiatives that have really helped to enliven Sutton town centre and is helping to make us a destination of choice for shoppers, new businesses and social events. We want to continue to build on this and know that there is still much more to do.

Safety is a number one priority and we are grateful to the local police for their support. We hope to participate in an initiative with the Tutu Foundation UK and the police which is currently being run across several London boroughs.

Reducing pollution is important for all of us, but particularly children and we want to play our part in bringing down pollutants and have clean air for us all to breathe.

Our Pop Up markets and Farmers & Artisans market have been a good way of attracting shoppers to the town centre. We want to drive up footfall even more and to explore new types and styles of market to ensure we create the right mix of stalls to attract shoppers to Sutton. A new international market will open soon.”

Anyone for Table Tennis?

Table tennis, suitable for all ages and abilities, is guaranteed to be a big hitter this summer in Sutton high street. A table tennis table, free for all to use, will be situated in Times Square, Sutton High Street, for everyone to try their hand at a game of ping pong.

Monica Tyler, interim chief executive for Successful Sutton, said: “We are always looking for new ways to increase the mix of entertainment on the high street and add to its vibrancy.

“Table tennis is a fun way for visitors, shoppers and office workers to enjoy some gentle exercise and have some fun.”

Simply turn up and play or, if that seems a bit too energetic, sit back and watch the kids while relaxing in a deckchair.

Table tennis will ‘ping’ into action on Tuesday 25 July and be open weekdays from 1pm to 4.00pm until Friday 4 August.

Bats and balls will be available free of charge and the 30 minute slots on the table will be managed by Successful Sutton staff.
